Marine Communications, Position and DSC Functions

The HX891BT combines marine VHF voice communications with integrated GPS and ITU-R M.493 Class-H DSC operation. The internal GPS receiver supplies position information for navigation and compatible DSC functions, including position sharing and DSC distress-related operation.

Class-H operation provides dedicated monitoring for DSC activity on Channel 70 while the radio is being used for normal communications. The radio also supports Group Monitor functionality using DSC group position calls, allowing compatible vessels in a predefined group to share position information.

Integrated Bluetooth Hands-Free Operation

Built-in Bluetooth provides a convenient option for hands-free marine VHF communication when used with a compatible Bluetooth headset. The HX891BT is compatible with the Standard Horizon SSM-BT20 Bluetooth headset and supports VOX-related hands-free operation.

This can be especially useful for crew members who need to communicate while keeping their hands available for docking, line handling, deck work, or other onboard tasks.

Floating IPX8 Construction

The HX891BT is built for marine use with a floating enclosure and IPX8 submersible construction. Its rugged case design has also been tested to conform to MIL-STD-810F requirements specified by Standard Horizon.

If the radio enters the water, its emergency white strobe can automatically activate to help make the radio easier to locate. Strobe operating modes include flashing, SOS, and continuous illumination settings.

GPS Navigation and Man Overboard Functions

The integrated 66-channel GPS receiver supports position display, waypoint navigation, route navigation, and Man Overboard functions. Position information can also be used with compatible DSC functions for vessel-to-vessel position sharing and distress-related communication.

Large Day/Night Display

A 1.7" x 1.7" full-dot-matrix display provides clear access to channel, GPS, DSC, navigation, and menu information. Selectable daytime and nighttime display modes help maintain readability under changing lighting conditions.
