Product Description

KENWOOD NXR-1700 VHF DMR, NXDN and Analog Repeater

The KENWOOD NXR-1700 is a compact, network-ready VHF conventional repeater for professional radio systems operating from 136 to 174 MHz. It can be configured for FM analog, DMR Tier II or NXDN conventional operation, helping businesses modernize an existing system without dedicating a full rack-width position to each repeater.

With adjustable output from 1 to 50 watts, up to 32 channels, a built-in IP network interface and a large front-panel OLED display, the NXR-1700 provides a flexible foundation for single-site and eligible multisite VHF communications systems.

Why Choose the NXR-1700?

  • 136–174 MHz VHF frequency coverage
  • Adjustable 1–50 watt RF output
  • 50 watts at 50% duty cycle or 25 watts at 100% duty cycle
  • Up to 32 programmable channels
  • FM analog, DMR Tier II or NXDN conventional configuration
  • Mixed analog and digital operation with the selected digital protocol
  • Compact half-width design allows two repeaters in a 1U, 19-inch rack space
  • Built-in IP network adapter for system integration and remote management
  • 1.71-inch OLED display for useful operating and diagnostic information
  • Thermal-controlled cooling fan

Designed for Analog-to-Digital Migration

The NXR-1700 supports conventional FM analog operation and can be ordered or configured for one supported digital protocol: NXDN conventional or DMR Tier II. Mixed analog/digital operation helps organizations transition subscriber radios and users in stages instead of replacing an entire radio system at once.

Protocol, licensing, programming and software-option requirements should be reviewed when the system is quoted. DMR and NXDN are programmed one at a time on an individual repeater.

Compact Rack-Space Design

The half-width NXR-1700 measures approximately 8.44 inches wide and only 1.73 inches high with projections. Two units can be installed side by side within a 1U-high, 19-inch rack arrangement when the appropriate mounting hardware and system design are used.

This space-efficient format is useful for equipment rooms, dispatch centers, remote sites and expansion projects where rack capacity is limited.

Front-Panel OLED Status Display

The 1.71-inch OLED display can show system information such as channel number or name, RF frequency, MAC or IP address, RSSI, transmit-power status, firmware information, electronic serial number, license information, errors and other operating conditions.

IP Networking and Remote System Management

A built-in IP network adapter supports network-based system integration without requiring a separate basic network adapter. Supported functions include multicast routing, SNMP reporting, HTTPS security, IP remote management and an IP remote-control interface.

Depending on system configuration, software, licenses and firmware, eligible applications can include remote monitoring, control, programming, test-console operation, IP console integration, over-the-air programming and digital SIP integration.

Conventional Multisite and Redundancy Capabilities

The NXR-1700 platform supports hot-standby system redundancy and can be integrated into eligible conventional IP networks. Software-option capabilities include multisite conventional IP networking for as many as 16 sites and voting-repeater systems with as many as 15 receivers.

Network topology, software licenses, subscriber compatibility and feature availability must be confirmed during system design.

Compatible Migration Path

KENWOOD identifies the NXR-1700 as IP-network compatible with eligible NXR-710 and TKR-D710 series repeater systems. This can support replacement, expansion or phased migration projects, subject to protocol, firmware, software and system-engineering requirements.
